The mission of the Veterans Service Office is to aid and assist all veterans, their widows or spouses, and/or their dependent children, in the City of Woburn through the Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services, with short or long term medical assistance, financial aid, applications, and administration of veteran’s benefits.

Our office is also responsible for all veterans’ oriented civic affairs, such as parades, school programs honoring veterans, grave decorating, and dedications.

The Director is also an Executive Member of the United Veterans Council of Woburn.

The Veterans Director is appointed by the Mayor and reports directly to the Mayor.  The Veterans office is now located in the rear of the COA/Senior Center on School Street, and the new office allows us meeting space for individuals and or groups, with all confidentiality issues addressed. 

This past calendar year this office assisted over eighty veterans or veterans families with cash aid, which is paid by the City of Woburn then reimbursed back to the City by the State of Massachusetts at 75%.  The office’s Cash Aid Budget for FY 2014 is $400,000.00.

The office has also assisted numerous veterans get assistance and services from VA Medical Hospitals and VA Medical Long Term Care, through the application process for Aid and Attendance benefits, Assisted Living Benefits, In-Home Care Assistance and other VA approved programs.

Our office assists in the Compensation and Pension Claim process for veterans seeking disability claims through the Veterans Administration and provides an interface to numerous State and Veterans Outreach Programs.
We also provide assistance and guidance with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on such matters as benefits, applications, advice and rehabilitation through various programs including the State and Federal Outreach Centers.

This office also deals, on a constant basis, with the United Veteran's Council who represents all the veteran's  groups in Woburn and assist in planning and operation of events such as Memorial Day, Veteran's Day and Memorial Day Commemorations, Memorials Squares, cemetery flags, school programs, proper flag disposal, among others.  

We deal with veteran's who served in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Panama/Grenada, Gulf (Desert Shield/Desert Storm), Afghanistan (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and their families.
